Things To Do Attractions & Activities

Make sure you allow plenty of time to explore and experience some of Kuranda’s world-renowned attractions and activities. Start your journey aboard the iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway — one of the most unique rail journeys in the world and a spectacular way to arrive in the village.

Your first stop might be the Original Rainforest Markets, where you can discover handmade treasures, delicious food, and a truly local atmosphere.

Kuranda is also home to world-class wildlife attractions that offer unforgettable close encounters for the whole family. At Kuranda Koala Gardens, you can get up close with iconic Aussie animals including kangaroos, wallabies, possums, and wombats — and yes, you can even pat a koala! Right next door, inside the Kuranda Heritage Markets, you’ll find Birdworld Kuranda — home to one of Australia’s largest collections of free-flying birds, including the magnificent Southern Cassowary. Hand-feed the birds and be surrounded by living colour.

Don’t miss the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, where hundreds of butterflies flutter around you in a lush rainforest setting — it’s the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in the Southern Hemisphere.

There’s plenty more to see and do in Kuranda. Take a selfie with a life-sized Allosaurus replica, enjoy a cultural dance performance, or ride on an amphibious World War II Army Duck.
