Kuranda Koala Gardens is home to Australia’s iconic animals including koalas, wallabies, wombats, snakes and lizards, gliders and Australia’s freshwater crocodile. An award-winning boutique wildlife attraction in the heart of Kuranda rainforest village and located within the Heritage Markets.
Everyone loves a koala! Whether they are eating, sleeping of just looking adorable. Here at Koala Gardens you can take the opportunity to ‘Cuddle a Koala’ and receive a great souvenir digital photo. For a small additional cost, you will have a memory to last a lifetime. Kuranda Koala Gardens is one of only a handful of places in the world where you can cuddle a koala. Pat and hand feed swamp wallabies, eastern grey kangaroos and red legged pademelons. Meet the loveable wombats which are fast becoming Australia’s favourite marsupial. See the rare greater bilby, the northern bettong, mahogany glider and more in the new ‘Nocturnal Wonders’ exhibit.
Another Australian native you will see and perhaps not as endearing as the Koala but a fascinating part of the eco system for millions of years, is the Freshwater Crocodile. Australia is home to the world’s most amazing selection of reptiles and there are many on display. See dragons, lizards, monitors with their long-forked tongues, and much more. Camouflage is their key to survival, so take your time and try to find them in their enclosure! See and learn about a range of snakes, both deadly and harmless endemic to the local tropical rainforest and dry woodlands.
Kuranda Koala Gardens is operated by decedents of one of Kuranda’s pioneering families. Learns about the local railway and forestry history with authentic photographs and artefacts.
The attraction is conveniently located in the Kuranda Heritage Markets. Free shuttle service operates from the Kuranda Skyrail Terminal and the Kuranda Scenic Railway Station to Koala Gardens, or it is only a short 10-minute walk.
