Visitor Information Kuranda's General Services

For a village with a population of around 3000 people, Kuranda offers all manner of services to both its residents and visitors.
For tourists there are ATMs, foreign exchange facilities, a post office, supermarket, chemist, newsagents and a mechanic for that car that needs a bit of pampering. We’re also an accessible destination, with a disabled toilet situated in the main public convenience complex. To assist our visitors, we do have a push chair (age 6 months and over) and wheelchair available for hire for a small fee. For easy reference, we’re pleased to provide listings for some general services you may require on this page. For more information, please contact us or drop into the Visitor Information Centre.

Traffic Reports, Roads, Emergencies and Disasters

Traffic reports and road conditions. Visit Queensland Traffic for updates and real-time information on traffic conditions across our region and Queensland. You can also report an incident or traffic jam.

Kuranda Range SMS traffic alerts. Transport and Main Roads Cairns district office offers a free SMS service to alert registered users of current incidents that result in delays of more than 30 minutes or a full road closure. SMS updates are available for Kuranda Range, Gillies Range and Captain Cook Highway between Palm Cove and Craiglie.

Emergencies and Disasters. The Mareeba Shire region is vulnerable to natural and non-natural hazards which have the potential to create disaster events. To ensure an effective and efficient response to and recovery from a disaster event, it is important to have effective and coordinated disaster management arrangements in place. For more information and links, visit the Mareeba Shire Council Emergencies and Disasters. Mareeba Shire Council has officially released a community awareness guide, aimed at keeping locals and tourists safe when exploring the Shire – you can download this guide here or pick up a copy from the Kuranda Visitor Information Centre.
