Kuranda truly is the Village in the Rainforest, situated 330m above sea level on top of the McAlister Range, in the heart of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforests. Lush tree ferns line the roadside on the way into the village and numerous walking tracks and trails take you into the green surrounds, offering running streams, wide rivers and views over waterfalls and gorges. Boasting spectacular scenery and natural beauty, just getting here is an experience in itself.
Kuranda is very accessible and only a short leisurely drive from Cairns via the Kuranda Range. The road meanders through rainforest with a lookout that provides panoramic views over the Barron River delta, across Cairns beaches, and on a good day, you can see out to Green Island. For another rainforest experience, try combining a trip on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Both award-winning attractions provide complementary yet very different journeys through the Barron Gorge National Park.
There’s also a range of day tours and public transport options. No matter how you arrive, we trust you’ll enjoy Kuranda the ‘Village in the Rainforest’.
