Getting Here – Public Transport

There are two very economical bus services which travel between Cairns and Kuranda. They offer local residents the means to travel to both work and school, but can also offer a cheap alternative to Tourist and visitors travelling to and from the village. They are ideal for people who have enjoyed the experience of travelling to Kuranda on both the train and Skyrail and whom wish to return for another day.

Their operating times vary slightly from day to day and are best confirmed by contacting the Visitor Information Centre. The only problem is that unfortunately, they operate on the basis of first in best dressed, so if you are able to purchase a return ticket on your upward journey this will give you some guarantee that you will definitely have a seat when you return. They are also able to drop people directly to the airport on request when they travel from Kuranda to Cairns.

Trans North Bus Service

Trans North Bus & Coach Service operates a Kuranda Shuttle Bus that completes five return services per day. This service operates every day of the year except Christmas Day.

The Cairns bus stops are located at:
Cairns Central Shopping Centre, Bus bays at Qld Rail (platform 1)
79 Abbott Street (Orchid Plaza)
Smithfield Bus Shelter, Kennedy Highway

From Kuranda:
15 Therwine Street, Kuranda

Please note:
This is a ‘Hail & Ride’ service and bookings are not taken and ticket purchases are made from the driver as you board the bus.

For full schedules, please visit their website.
