Celebrate Easter at KurandaCreated by admin under Featured Story, News on Thursday 21st of March 2013
Kuranda will host the inaugural Great Easter Egg Drop on Easter Saturday (March 30) showering people visiting the Village in the Rainforest with 5000 Easter eggs throughout the day.
Tourism Kuranda Executive Officer Marc Sleeman said the Easter Bunny would be up on a raised mobile platform in Centenary Park dropping 1000 Easter eggs every hour from 11am to 3pm.
“We are adding a Scottish flavour to Kuranda’s Easter in the Park celebrations this year with the popular NQ Scots band performing at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm,” he said.
“They call themselves the NQ Scots, but don’t let the kilts and bagpipes fool you, they are not your ordinary Scottish band.
“Keyboards, bass, mandolin, bouzouki, banjo and even Japanese taiko drums are among the assorted instruments wielded by this fun-loving band of 13 as they add a twist to favourites like Amazing Grace.”
NQ Scots musical director and Kuranda local Fraser Martin has promised memorable performances in Centenary Park which will spur the audience into the occasional bout of the Highland fling.
Easter in the Park is a full day of free entertainment at Centenary Park from 10am to 4pm and there will be street performers roving throughout the Village in the Rainforest.
The entertainment includes a magic show, face painter, two jumping castles, kids’ games, as well as horse and carriage rides.
Join in the egg and spoon race at 11.15am, horse shoe throwing competition at 12.15pm or the massive thong throwing competition at 1.15pm.
“It’s a great day out in Kuranda and with the markets operating, great boutique and arts and crafts shopping plus 23 restaurants and cafes to choose from there is plenty to do,” Mr Sleeman said.
